Oh yes he also confirmed that this norlett is a forerunner to the Beaver Powerspade and a much beefier machine. it came with both the Aspera and a briggs and Stratton engines.

Both machines now working - hopefully the recent rain has made the ground soft enough to make it possible to rotavate.

I think you will find these machines will dig just about any soil, if you want  to deep dig just pull it towards you and it will dig itself in. I was using mine this afternoon and digging the virgin territory under the hedge - it was coping with roots just fine, it even kicked up a lump of concrete  the size of a brick with no problems.
well done on getting both your machines going, thats 3 more of these up and running now.

finally have a definative answer - I managed to get a second one for spares this dated to 1967 from the engine number, but it did have its name sticker on the fuel tank.
its a Norlett Versatiller 1000 mkV
