strawberries have i murdered them?
« on: July 01, 2011, 18:35 »
about 2 weeks ago the old folks next to me gave me some strawberry plants, they are down sizing their plot, they said just dig them up and replant.
i did just that, covered with net and have watered but they still look extremely sad and almost shrivelled up, a few of them are showing signs of life.

so the question is when is the right time to dig them up and move them as i have some in my plot i want to relocate. what can i do to help them survive?

thanks

I think the answer is not this time of year!

I'd wait until the cooler days of autumn also sucess in transplanting depends on the age of the plant. Older ones do not like being moved. I've lost a few in the past when disturbing their roots just through weeding.
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

Anything transplanted at this time of year needs to be kept copiously watered and shaded from the hot sun.
I`m left handed, what`s your excuse?

Forget them! Plant up their runners, they do this one. Off-shoots with a few leaves and some rootlings. And water those.
