Grinning from ear to ear!
« on: June 12, 2011, 18:27 »
My broody hen is doing a fantastic job (she is a first timer). Today is day 8 so we had a go at candeling the eggs. Well 10 out of 11 were fertile  :D Sadly the dud was one of my sons Gold laced orpingtons and he only has one left now, fingers crossed that one is a girl.
I was so pleased to be able to see the chick moving inside the eggs.

I candled the eggs again today (day 15) and they all seem to be growing well and moving around. Not long now I know but it seems to be forever.
I will post pics as soon as we have cute chicks to show for the waiting.   :D

Now that we are so close to hatch day I was wondering what day is best to add the chick crumb to the feeder? (for Mama hen's sake mainly).

Yes the GLO egg is doing well. I ended up with slightly different eggs to what I had ordered because the breeders Buff columbian brahma's wern't laying at the time  :( I had only ordered 9 eggs but he gave me some extra :D So instead we  now have-

1x Gold laced Orp
2x Buff Orp
3x Jubilee Orp
4x Gold Brahma

Jak, in answer to your query on chick crumb. You can feed it to her now as she doesn't need the layers pellets at the moment as she's not laying.

That is really exciting!  I would have loved to see that!   :D
When I die I will slide in sideways, a glass of wine in one hand and chocolate in the other, screaming, "Whooo hooo!  What a ride!" as life is to be enjoyed to the fullest!

Thank you Helenaj I have put the chick crumb in for her now, she seems to think it's really yummy too!
