Potatoes in Bags - Rotate?
« on: June 13, 2011, 17:16 »
Hi All

Just a quick silly question really.

I have quite a few potatoes in potato bags and I used to rotate them once every few days when they were small as they used to lean towards it.

Do I need to still keep doing tha as they are pretty huge and dificult to move :)

Thanks
Mattie

Hi Mattie & welcome.

I'd leave them alone, you're more likely to do more harm than good & disturb the roots.

Have you had a furtle to see if there's anything under the foiliage?
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

Thanks, im loving my new venture into growing vegggies!

Oh god yes, there seems to be alot of them thankfully :)
Ive read alot about growing in bags and it doesnt seem to work that well for some people.

They are Mayan Gold, which do gry very tall and I have a few more different varieties in the back garden not quite as big.

I have fertilised them fro the start and ive started feeding them once a week with a bit of tomato feed and they seem to be doing really really well.

digging up the lawn for next year and I have my name down for an allotment. Ive constantly got dirt under my nails these days!!!!!

Looking forward to harvesting in a few weeks I hope.

Thanks
Mattie

Do we feed spuds as a rule?

I put some fertilizer in my spuds when I started but have left it at that, will some tom food help or will it just give extra foilage?

curious I am.

I give them a sprinkle of chicken pellets everytime I earth up until they reach the top of the pots. Nothing after that!...except water if it's very dry :)
