what does it mean when????
« on: June 15, 2011, 19:28 »
One of our hens (a little banty) is broody, and has been for the last couple of weeks.  We can't seem to break her.

We have three other hens who seem to be going through a bit of an eratic laying stage....
We normally get one egg per day from each of our light sussex hens and one every now and again from our other little banty.  This week we have had a day where we only got one egg (light sussex), one day with no eggs, one day with a soft a soft egg the next day with two eggs - but they were both there at 7am when we got them up and were really cold so it was as if they had been there all night and then now we have got one normal egg and one absolutely HUGE egg!

Does this mean anything?  Does it have anything to do with one of them being broody?  or am I just being a little dramatic and this is all very normal???

Karl, Lewis, Jensen & Guy.... all Girl chickens named after t'husbands hero's (and one of mine)....... Rossi and Murdoch....all Girl cats - again, named after t'husbands hero's!  the things you  have to agree to when you want new pets!

I also have a light sussex who is broody, just over a week now. We also have 3 other hens that have gone off the radar in producing eggs too!

I am not 100% sure this is why my other girls have gone all funny over laying but it was what i have put it down to. I could be completely wrong and i'm sure someone with more knowledge will come along and let us know  :)

Well i think i have broken her broodiness YEAY. Opened the door this morning and all 4 hens thundered out.

However i did only get 2 eggs today and she did try to sit on one, but i caught her at it and removed it. I left her in to see if she would stay but no, she came right back out. Will just have to wait and see if they get back into the swing of things now she isn't trying to sit.
