Gooseberries & Cordons and Growing on a leg
« on: June 13, 2011, 12:40 »

Hi all,

I am considering converting a couple of Gooseberry bushes into cordon gooseberries, that is grow up a cane and keep tall and non bushy.

I have a couple of questions though -

Is it worth moving the gooseberries that I already have (2nd year in ground) or just leave and use these as the basis for propagating the new cordons?  That is, do GB's transplant well?

2nd, I have a couple of GB's that have layered and created new plants, if i want to cordon them how do I go about it, is it just a case of pruning all apart from one strong upright branch and use this as the basis of the cordon.

Additionally I have read about growing on a leg from the bush, what exactly is this.

Is there anywhere that has clear pictures or diagrams?

Thanks for your help.

I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...
