I was thinking of suggesting peas, but peas in themsleves are not an "unusual" type of veg, as Poddy said, although as Spartacat said, some varieties are. But a pea is a pea and as a veg is not unusual.

David64 - have you ever tried home-grown peas - especially straight from the pod? You may change your mind.

I know they are not an unusual variety, but I have a couple of kilos of "Alderman" climbing pea here and if you'd like to try some, drop me a PM with your addy & I send a few to try & convert you!

Just had another thought, (2 in one week=scary!) what about Asparagus peas? They are unusual, pretty and OK to plant now
