Bean leaves going white
« on: June 02, 2011, 17:25 »
I have planted out in a container perfectly healthy French Beans from seed but only 3 days in and the leaves have got white blotches that are like tissue thinness. I have cut them off to allow fresh growth but I don't like the look of it. Is it some kind of leaf miner ? It is happening to my runner beans too.

Up to now: Beet leaf miner (Again)

Onion fly infestation.

It gets better every year :-(

I'd guess at sun scorch..were they hardened off and used to strong sunlight before you planted them out?

Ditto.
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

My dwarf beans did this to some extent when I planted them out in the cold frame.  I guessed they had got chilled.

They have grown out of it now.

Have to agree with the sun scorch - it's happened with my beans, squashes and cucs moved down to the lottie, although all fine with hardenning off temperature wise I'd forgotten my new garden doesn't actually get too much sun. Lesson learnt, all hardening off now occurs down the lottie in a coldframe, lucky it's only a minute walk away  :)

I did harden them off for about 5 days.

I usually harden off for at least double that, if the plants have come from indoors.  Several days when they're outside during the day only, and then again overnight - subject to chily forecast.
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

did you water them when the sun was still on them? This can cause sun scorch.
Start at the beginning, and finish at the end!!
