egg breaking
« on: June 02, 2011, 09:39 »
I pick my eggs early each day butone of my hens has started to break  an egg immediately after laying. The others are joining in eating it. I am worried this will become a habit And more importantly are they missing something in their diet of  pellets, corn, greens, some bread and mealworms. Can anyone advise.Thank you.

cut out all treats for a while and feed a good quality layers pellets plus grit and oyster shell only. If the egg is thin shelled or shell less then they will eat it to remove any evidence. If the egg was hard shelled then this is a habit you need to break - perhaps invest or make a roll away nest box.
Staffies are softer than you think.
