Frontline for my chooks?
« on: May 30, 2011, 18:01 »
Hi all, I think I read somewhere that Frontline is used on chooks, am just ordering some for my dog and wondered if I should be doing the chickens too?

Thank you for any advice...

The advice I read here seems to be to use kitten strength frontline.  Two drops for a bantam, three for a regular hen and four for a giant breed.   This will get rid of external parasites such as scaly leg mite.
11 bantams (and counting!) 2 dogs 1 cat

I use frontline for dogs and cats the spray sort, on my vet's advice....1 squirt under a wing 1 squirt on the back of the neck and 1 squirt up the bum. I tend to use it for scaly leg mite and to hopefully give broodie hens a bit of a heads up with red mite.

I use the spray Frontline - kitten/puppy strength as my vet says the pipette-type one for a fully grown dog is too strong. One good spray on the back of the neck between the wings does the trick. I find it so much easier than faffing about with powder.
One bit of advice - make sure you wear gloves as you don't want any of the spray on your skin. I usually wear marigolds as it ensures I'm protected up my arms as well.

a local vet advised that the frontline spot on is all the same strength its just the quantity that differs hence the bigger the dog the bigger the pipette. (we work for an animal charity and every penny counts)

I use one large dog and decant into a vial and dose the cats correct for their weight and the same for the chickens for a large breed its 0.5ml  but please dont take my word for it consult a vet.
If you look on ebay they sell it like this from the states, its just our regulations are far stricter here and I think its a way of making more money maybe ????

if wishes were changes.......

I've used ivermectic, again not licensed for poultry but used on caged birds. Not only does it do external pests like Frontline, but does a range of internal pests as well.

Again from vet.

my vet prescribes the spray frontline for me to use with my chickens and no withdrawal.
Staffies are softer than you think.
