What can I sow to follow beans and onions?
« on: May 21, 2011, 14:24 »
Would anyone mind assisting a confuddled grower?

I only have a very small garden and have packed in what I can, however it has just occured to me (I know i'm a bit slow lol) that in a few weeks I will have lots more space as my broad beans, onions, garlic etc will be finished

What would be good for these spaces? If I started things in modules now, by the time beans, first early spuds etc are finished they could be ready to go in.

New to gardening & growing my own, its a very steep learning curve!

If you look here
http://www.allotment-garden.org/vegetable/general/sowing-harvest-vegetable-chart.php

there are quite a lot of things to sow in June  ;)

I always put my leeks where the early spuds come out, also sow late autumn carrots and grow some dwarf french beans in pots for transplanting  :)

Our brassicas are going in after the onions, shallots and garlic come out, and we've got celeriac for beneath the french and runner beans, and a sweet potato or two, if the shoots/slips ever decide to do anything other than sulk.

I have successfully followed those crops with courgettes peas and runners.  All can be sown ahead of time and go straight in when the previous crop come out.
