The same as you would for comfrey,  bruise well and chuck 'em in.  the more the merrier.  They will stink but that is all part of the goodness.  Drain off the liquer and dilute 20 - 1.  You can add some soft soap if you want to.    Cheers,   Tony.

The only problem with using a water butt is after a while the old sludgy nettles etc can bung up the tap, so it needs to be emptied right out occasionally and hosed down inside.

Once, my Brian filled up a big net bag we had with comfrey then put that in the water butt.  Every so often he'd pull it out and empty it, but of course a lot of sludge just slides through the holes in the net! lol

Having fallen foul of the plant remains at the bottom of a container with a tap in it, we now make up batches and transfer the liquid only to the container with a tap at the bottom (small blue barrel with added tap). :)

But then the bits are smaller and can easily be stirred up.  I find onion bags are the best.   Cheers,   Tony.

ok my water butt has no tap as sucj its a dunk in the top butt :)
i do have hessian sacks at work maybe if i sling all the nettles in one of these then sink it in the butt?
however i guess whenever it rains the mixture is gonna get diluted even more, at the moment the butt is full to top with rain water, covered with a mesh top

I wouldnt bother putting it into a water butt personally, unless you have more than one. As already stated, you dilute it around 20/1 so a little goes a long way. Try to get hold of a big container with a lid and make a batch and keep adding to it. Take what you need and add some more. Good stuff.

I'll use an old bath for this.

Somewhere else, I've noted that it should be diluted as 10 - 1, and now see others recommend 20 - 1.

Must be somewhere in between?
