Shallots having a rest??
« on: June 05, 2011, 20:21 »
Went to the Lottie briefly today and my Jermor Shallots which were sown on the 6th Feb are lying down. Not all of them and they haven't really gone yellow yet except perhaps a bit at the tips.

Is this normal behaviour for Shallots given its now early June and they have been in the ground for 4 months.
99% Organic and 1% Slug Pellets.

Allotment holder since 27th May 2007.

I agree. Strange weather all around this year. Keep an eye on them to see if they recover or perhaps just need a good drink if it's been dry your way.

Thanks for the replies guys.
Its not water, we live in the NW of England and in May we had rain every single day.
I will take a photo and post it that may help with diagnosis.

My shallots look about ready to lift which is early but they did get all that warmth in April.  Some are Jermor. Some planted October, some January, some February. All look the same. It is time to stop watering them and allowing them to ripen.

They are ready to lift when you wriggle them and they come loose from each other.
