Deer will eat almost anything, moreso if it's a dry year and they're desperate to fatten before fall. However, there are a few plants they're not keen on - but will eat if desperate. High fencing is still your best bet.
barberry, autumn aster, thorny blackberries, boxwood, cotoneaster, dwarf chinese holly, juniper, non hygrid lantanas, lavender, payracantha, rosemary, scotch broom, turk's cap, wax myrtle, hens & chickens, yucca, ageratum, begonia, rudbeckia hirta, chrysanthemum greens (will eat flowers), coreopsis, cosmos, dusty miller, foxglove, iris, periwinkle, purple confeflower, savory, verbena, yarrow, zinnia.
