You can use any colour string you want.  I only had red when I built that one  ;)

In Aunty's diagram, I put a crossbar at the bottom back to tie the strings onto.

As for broad beans, I had to stake mine as they grew so tall and wanted to flop over. Just had to tie them once and they were fine.

Stick added along the bottom to tie string on to.

In Munty's original version he buries the string under the planted bean.

I like the cross bar better - I can find the string and if necessary replace it if something happens. I find it also adds better support. When the frame is heavy with beans and cukes, the frame needs all the help it can get.

I drilled holes into the lower crossbar so I can use galvanised wire fed through and buried a few inches into the soil for the vertical "strings" (the top end is bent over like an umbrella handle to hold it in position.)

Won't break or flap about, and is reusable (easy to pull back out from the top leaving the bines high and dry!)  :)

We have built one this year which OH decided to build with the two stringed sections built as independent framed panels which are attached to the uprights. The "strings" are made from thin wooden dowelling. This keeps it as lightweight as possible whilst making it robust against the wind. The panels can be taken out during the winter just leaving the uprights. It is very much based on having viewed THIS ONE in detail.
