Hi All

and greetings from a new member

I've grown Scorzonera for the first time this year and approximately half have run to flower.

Does this affect the size/quality of the root and if so would it help if I removed all the flowering stems or is it too late?

I've grown the closely related Salsify in the past and have never had them run to seed.

Cheers

Patrick

Scorzonera is a perennial unlike salsify which is biennial - hence would flower in 2nd year.

This means that the plants can be left in for next year (including any which have flowered).  They should simply get bigger.

Welcome to the forum BTW.

Thanks

May leave a few to bulk further next year though they're in the 'wrong place' and will mess up my somewhat obsessive crop rotation.

Other than that it will be a case of compare and contrast the flavour/texture of the bolted with the non-bolted as I dig them over the winter.
