Hey, my coop has two nest boxes and some pearches. The chickens 11 weeks old all sleep in the next boxs. Is the ok or do I need to encourage them to pearch?

You don't need nest boxes at the moment.  I would board them up until the chickens are about 16-18 weeks old

If you lerave them sleeping in the nest boxes now, it will be harder to break them of this bad habit later on

I have a perch to put in my broody coop for when the chicks need to perch.  I was wondering when I should do this.  I was thinking it should be when they had their full feathers and could control their temperature.

I have never seen such a nasty look that said "what the hell do you think your playing at" then when I was greeted by my girs this morning. I don't think they liked me blocking the nest boxes but I found them pearching in the morning!

Hmm sorry to bump this post but i had another question that has come up.

I have two pearches on the right of the door and a largish space at the door hole without pearches.

Looking where the droppings are - im pretty sure the chooks are just lying on the floor in there rather then standing on the pearches?

Should i encourage them to use the pearches more or are they ok sleeping on the ground like that?

Maybe add another pearch accross where they are sleeping at the moment?
