Egg candlers
« on: May 04, 2011, 20:13 »
Hi,

Just been looking at egg candlers as I need to get one asap really, but I need to ask a silly question. Is a high intensity candler ok for light eggs too? We're hoping to hatch some ducklings soon so will need a high intensity one but I wondered if I need a low intensity one for 'normal' chicken eggs.

Probably a really silly question but I was worried a high intensity one could damage the lighter eggs?

I think the ones that cause damage are the ones that produce heat as well as a bright light - i.e a home made candler using a strong "domestic" light. As long as it uses the correct type of bulb, any candler would do - for light eggs or dark. It's not as if you are going to leave the egg standing on the light source for any length of time.
