My neighbours husband died earlier this year from cancer and just before he did he said I could use his greenhouse as I do not have one. He wanted me to grow toms for his wife as he had discovered Sungold and we all thought they were the nicest toms we had eaten.

I feel a little under pressure as I have only grown tumbling toms outside in hanging baskets but they are doing ok so far. I am going to grown them in bottomless pots set into growbags. I will be asking what to do next when they need supporting and "side bits" chopping off!

I ALWAYS over sow and usually freecycle my spares. This year I bought loads of little pots from Wilcos and I'm going to sell (at cost) my spare peppers, chillies, toms, cues, cabbage and psb from the gate at our street party tomorrow.
Thinking I could get a little pre-order business started.......

These are the sweetest toms I've ever grown.  The only problem I've had is that their skins do split very easily so I'm trying golden cherry this year as I think that they are very similar apart from this problem.

Golden cherry are very sweet.  Grew them last year for the first time and had no problem with the skins.  I'm growing them again this year because we all liked them so much.

Bigben, don't worry too much, sungold are one of the easiest toms to grow. As you say, you need to pinch out the "side bits" as they appear where the leaves come out of the main stalk, and tie them in to a stake....a tall one, they are quite gangly. Water well and feed once the first flowers set.....and ask as many questions as you like on the way! :D

My packet said there were six seeds and I got eight plants, so not too many to give away (five varieties though, and some have produced loads!)
