Leeky Questions
« on: April 20, 2011, 15:10 »
Have a couple of questions on Leek seedlings, which are potted and in the garden:

At present they are about 3 to 4 inches high and fairly thin, I read somewhere that they benfit from trimming. Is that so?

Secondly, the pots are in full sun in south facing garden, would they be more comfortable in shade at this stage?

Thanks for any help/information.

I'm a bit of a leek newbie (last year was the first, although they were successful!) but as far as I know they are only trimmed when planting out (roots as well, although some folk do neither, including me!)

Are they in several small pots or one large one?

I would think that if in very small pots they will dry out quickly in the conditions we are having at the moment and might be better somewhere with at least some shade.
Sow your seeds, plant your plants. What's the difference? A couple of weeks or more when answering possible queries!

Jay is quite correct in the trimming, although I only trim the roots not the top growth.
I would suggest they need to be in a deep pot, full aint an issue so long as they dont dry out, mine have been in the cold frame for the last few weeks.
