Our rhubarb is now in it's second year. Recently had a good feed with some locally produced horse manure! It already  has a few good stems.  The 'centre' stem now has a largr bulbus purply head to it, a bit like the white part of a cauliflower! What am I looking at exactly?

It a flower. Cut it off or the plant will put loads of energy into it and not into growing nice stalks.

You need to snap these off as soon as you see them otherwise it will put its energy into that instead of lovely rhubarb to eat

just a quickey give the plant loads of water they love it evertime i leave my plot the last thing i do is give it a lug of water and a beer at the end of the growing season but thats just me but water they love
