second year rhubarb
« on: April 12, 2011, 20:28 »
My rhubarb is in it's second year so the book says I can pick one or two sticks this year.Is there a specific time for the second years picking or just when theyre big enough.Sorry if i'm being over cautious but they look so healthy I don't want to make a mess of them now

Any time from now until early June would be fine.  Make sure you remove any flower stalks as soon as you see them, too.
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

I took 3 fat juicy stems from our 2 year old rhubarb on Sunday.. It was so healthy with lots and lots of leaves it felt rude not to! Tasted lovely.. although not that rhubarby.. maybe ill ask the other half to cook it a little less next time  :tongue2:
