Help please
« on: April 07, 2011, 13:09 »
I hope somebody can help me.  I want to identify the shrub/tree in the photo, it's about 10-12 feet tall, I don't know if it should flower or not but it hasn't since I have owned it (3 years). Also do you think it could cause the lawn problem in the other photo, my husband is convinced it's ruining his precious lawn, if it is I'll move it to the back garden.  Thanks for any help.

congrats on mastering photos  :D

It looks like a yucca to me, or possibly a phormium
The only harm I think it would do is to make that bit of lawn drier, so perhaps a touch of watering is all that's needed?

Yup, agree with mumofstig.  I should imagine it takes most of the water from the grass, hence the brown patches.  If you're worried about the lawn then I would say the only answer would be to water it well or to take the plant out.  I can't imagine you'll have much chance of moving it though, I should think the roots are very deep and a nightmare to dig out.

Thanks for your replies, the lawn gets a huge watering, it's my husbands baby, we also have Greenthumb round every three months or so to treat it, the other side of the lawn is lovely as is the back garden so it would seem that it is the tree.  I really don't want to loose it, hubby is ready and waiting with an axe to chop it down.  I'll be really sad as it was given to me in a pot, practically dead and about 3 feet tall, since it was planted here you could practically see how happy it was.  :(
