asparagus, first of season
« on: March 26, 2011, 19:53 »
Hadnt gone to the allotment since earlier in the week. Went today and a load of asparagus has come through - so I picked a little over a pounds worth. Very tasty and an unexpected treat. And more poking through for picked later.

I'm envious.  Another year to wait before I can get a good harvest. :)

I'm with Ice...

I only planted mine last year so I can't pick them yet... but then there are no signs of life yet anyway!  :(

Mine are not and I'm pleased about that as I ran the hoe across the surface of the bed yesterday.
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

I weeded the bed in the week but wasn't brave enough to have a rummage in case I damaged them or even worse didn't find anything

What a big wuss am I  :tongue2:

Just starting to stick there heads above the soil. Been in 4 years so should be able to pick them for the full season for the first time.

I'm jealous!

I love just about every vegetable there is, but asparagus is one of my favourites. I can't wait to grow my own.

My first year of picking after waiting two years - oone or two are just starting to show and, when I weeded the bed, there are some just below the surface - oh Deepjoy...bring on the butter / Hollondaise sauce.
I work very hard so don't expect me to think as well.
