Just dont expect the plastic covers to stay on if there is a wind blowing   
you would have to modify the application by use of a large lacky band looped over the top and under the pot

I use them to water in the summer, with pieces of cut hose pipe pushed into soil then put the bottle at the end of the hose,fill with water and slowly the water reaches the roots

I use them in the war against bindweed, cover the weed with a cut off bottle let the weed grow up inside and then NUUUKE it with weedkiller! Selective culling works every time.

I use the codes on the Coke bottles they give me lots of points if you have any spare code please ping them over to me hahahahhaha most Coca cola bottles have the code on.

A little late but I did that with the coke bottles for the first time today to cover my new strawberry plants untill the take hold.

I saw it done on the TV many moons ago.
