I am countng my eggs before they've hatched but wondered when you would normally put the chicks and mum back in with other hens?  They will be in a run alongside the others so will already have eyed each other up between the mesh.

Hello Newbie,
I am not that experienced at this and I'm sure that someone more experienced will be along.  My understanding is that the mother will let you know when she is ready to leave the chicks and the best time to introduce the chicks is when they are large enough to take care of themselves and stand up to any pecking order bullying from the other hens.
In the meatime Good Luck and we love to see pictures on this forum when the chicks arrive

If they're with a broody, then I let them in the same run after about a week.  Mum will prtect them from the other hens.  this way there should be fewer issues when mum goes back into the flock and the chicks have to take care of themselves

hi, Mine weren't with mum but they were kept alongside for a while, then when about 12 weeks old, were let out into the pen during the day, but seperated at night when the majority of squabbles take place.
There will be some pecking, especially for food, but ours were soon expected.  It is much easier is mum is protecting them.
