I have only limited experience of growing Joan J, an Autumn variety, and I didn't need to net them last year (birds don't seem to bother with Autumn varieties around here). But I'm now growing Tulameen and although I don't expect to see much in the way of fruit this year, I am planning on building a fruit cage alongside them. Should I include them in the cage, or would they be OK outside?

 The birds take any summer raspberries that poke their heads through the roof of our fruit cage, but seem less interested in the autumn ones.

I would include them in the cage.
