I am digging up a plot in my garden to grow vegetables.  There is currently a small ornamental Fig Shrub there though and it's in the way!!  It is pretty hardy as last year my partner got busy with a chain saw and cut it right back to 8 inches and it grew really well and even flowered - he did ths in April 2010.  Is it ok to dig it up now and move it?  Its about 1 1/2 meters cubed currently.

Actually, figs love having their roots pruned which encourages better fruit growth rather than leaf growth. So yes, you can move it now. In the new spot, give it compost rather than manure and it will surprise you.

Don't forget that figs produce best fruit if their root run is restricted - either in a pot or by something like paving slabs creating a box to grow them in in the ground.
