Raspberry canes too deep?
« on: April 01, 2011, 19:20 »
Newbie type question. I planted eight Autumn Bliss & 5 Glen Clova canes a fortnight ago. Two of the Glen Clova (Summer fruiting) are shooting at the base, but none of the others. I'm probably just being impatient, but I'm concerned I might have planted them a little too deep, although I tried not to. Would it matter if they were an inch or so deeper than they should be?

no  :) I just bung them in and never worry, they never seem to mind.

Mine were planted 4th march, some are sprouting and some aren't, but a tickle near the roots showed they are alive and well :D

I planted mine last year, and some sprunf up really quickly but others took and age to show any signes of life. I was so convinced that two of them had died that i ripped them out, only to find their roots were spreading, grown and developing and sjust begining to sprout (a good 3 months after planting).
Give them time, if they are not sprouting they are probably putting in some good root growth - which is always a good thing.
