Trouble brooding on the home front?
« on: March 14, 2011, 18:23 »
Cilla has been broody for the last few days and today Gladys has decided to join her.  They were quite happy sitting side by side in the nest boxes until I put them out.  Now they are fighting.  They both have their feathers up, Tails spread and wings out, doing a wee dance and then run at each other squawking. They are not bothering with Gracie.  Take it this because she isn't broody.  What do I do?  Seperate them or let them just sit in nest boxes til they get over it?

I think you will have to separate then Jinty.  Have you got a cat or dog box you can put them in (one each) until they cool off?

Of course you could let them have a few eggs each (I would take the cockerels... if I was closer) (tongue firmly in cheek  ;) )

try putting a piece of cardboard between each  nest , tacked into place so they dont see each other like a false wall .. they have some privacy and no squabbles :)

They seem quite happy in the house (were on floor cos I blocked boxes off last night) it's when I bring them out to eat.  Earlier I took them out of house, closed the door and gave them corn and extra mealworms as a special treat seeing as Gracie died today and it was hand bags at dawn.  They were frantic to get back in house so I gave in lol.  I know, am a big softie  :D

Ha would love it, if I had an 50 acre estate  :D but only got room for a few more wee chicks.  And I am not the only one that encourages hatching eggs.  Think I will have to order some while the broody girls are broody.  Got a big hole in my heart to replace now.  :(
