Belgian Bantam / Seebrights
« on: February 07, 2011, 16:09 »
Having had hybrid chickens for two years I have upgraded them to larger accommodation - I am after a trio of very small decorative bantams to occupy the old smaller house.  Does anyone in the surrey area have any silver or gold seebrights or any bearded bantams fro sale?

Sebrights and barbu d'uccles are pretty specialised bantams.  I think your best bet would be to look in Practical Poultry or Fancy Fowl for breeders

Have you considered Sabelpoots or Serama?  They seem to be a little less uncommon, and come in all kinds of pretty colours too!

Edited to add: Also, have you thought of attending a local show?  They often have sales pens.  You will be able to talk to the breeders and get lots of information too.  I picked up a gorgeous Sabelpoot boy at a show on Sunday :)

I will look in my latest issue of rare breeds poultry magazine tonight and see if there are any breeders in there for you. Will pm you if there are but no guarantees.
Sablepoots over here Casey are rarer than barbu d'uccles and barbu d'anvers.

Really? Wow.

At the show I went to on sunday, there was not a single barbu d'uccle/ d'anver and about 30 sabelpoots.  Lemon millefleur and procelain are still the most common, but I saw fawn, buff mottles, gold millefleur and black mottled I think.  All completely gorgeous - of course only the males were for sale  ::)

The black poots are stunning - saw one last year at the National (only about 8 poots and none for sale  :() but a full row of barbu d'uccle/d'anvers (Big Jen off here gave me a trio and they are lovely). Poots over here are considered a rare breed (my 4 are lemon millefleur) but would love some black ones.
