My BHWT regional co-ordinator contacted me this morning, I'd emailed him last week requesting some more ex-batts and asking if they needed any helpers, and he said YES, they're desperate for foster carers willing to to take on the chickens that come out of the farms lame, blind, prolapsed or generaly unwell. Which I am   So once I've tracked down another coop...any offers of an old one/shed would be greatfully recieved...I'll be able to take them in until they're well enough to be re-homed. I cant wait. Said I was looking for something to do didnt I and I've really enjoyed nursing Flo, so it's worked out rather well...for once

There's an old wooden playhouse in the garden, which is more solid than I thought (gave it a good kick yesterday!!) so if I change the roof on it, I think I've got a hen house sorted Spoke to the co-ordinator earlier, and there's a rescue on 20th March, so if there's any poorlies, they'll drop them off to me with instructions of what to do. Some will have to be kept inside...if they're blind or cant stand at all...so my new utility room is going to take on a totally different roll. I can hopefully, make them a bit better, and them transfer them outside to feather up. I cant wait!!!
And yes Jinty, turn up with your dust pan and brush, you'll be made very welcome xx

I remember at one stage when you were nursing your lot and were feeling down, you posted that you weren't going to have more chickens if you lost your current brood.  I thought noooooooooooooo  at the time as you were so devoted and I felt so sorry that you had gone the extra mile and rescued some ex-bats and were having such a tough time  

Just look at you now - such a rewarding thing to do.  Do keep us posted as we will all be rooting for you

Aww, thank you xx  I was ready to give in, I just couldnt take the heart break...rescuing ex-batts puts you on a personal mission to make their lives as wondeful as you possibly can, and the fact I couldnt help them was just so upsetting. BUT, I've lost one and saved one, so I've experienced both sides of the coin now and things arent so bleak. I know 5 minutes of freedom out of those hell hole battery farms is better than nothing, but I want to make their existence as happy as possible and hopefully do the same for the even less fortunate battery hens. I can just picture the little hobbling flock now. Bless
