Creased egg...is someone distressed??
« on: March 10, 2011, 12:39 »
The past couple of days, one of my girls has been laying creased eggs. Todays egg was quite badly creased. Im sure I remember reading somewhere that if a chicken is scared while laying, the egg can become creased?? Or could it be Flo with her recent prolapse problems??  They have loads of grit and shell, and they have their egg shells back, so I dont think its because they're lacking anything. Any ideas??
Many pets, a bloke and 2 kids....help!!!

One of my hens would produce wrinkled eggs without being stressed. The most stressful thing she had to contend with was racing for treats. :)

My biggest brown hybrid used to lay really creased eggs on a regular basis. She had everything she could possibly need so I stopped worrying  :)

How old is she and what breed?
Staffies are softer than you think.

She's just a hybrid Joy, ex-batt. Had her since August, so I'm presuming she's about 2??? I was wondering if it was an age thing, or maybe the germaloids worked too well :D

it's an age thing then - which is why they are disposed of - imperfect shapes, sizes etc. Makes no difference to the taste and I like things being different  :)

Ahhh, thats all good then. Was just concerned that it was linked with distress. The eggs can come all shapes and sizes...or not at all, dont mind either way as long as Flo's insides stay inside!! :)

My ex-batts' eggs were usually creased like that... the thing to remember is that perfect eggs are reserved for the supermarket shelves, but the dodgy looking ones are put in cakes, pasta and so on... it makes us think that all eggs are perfectly formed but it's just not true.
