lash
« on: February 17, 2011, 21:54 »
About 6 weeks ago I had 2 chickens die as a result of worms even though I dosed them 3 months before. I re-dosed the 3 chickens left, this time in their water for 4 consecutive days to ensure they all drank it.
Now the worms are gone but they have not laid a single egg in the last 4 weeks. I saw one pass a lash in front of me.
These chickens are not old (2 yrs) and are happy and appear healthy.
Can the passing of a lash be induced by worming them?

No, it's usually caused by a bacterial infection in the eggy mechanism.

What did you use to worm them ?

Most chicken keepers here will only recommend flubenvet.

what breed of chickens are they?
Staffies are softer than you think.

The chickens are ex free range hybrids and I used Aviverm to worm them. Have not seen Flubenvet available here in NZ. On another website I saw someone else had her chicken pass a lash after worming so I thought I'd ask.

I have done a lot of research into chicken diseases, husbandry, etc. since a few of mine died and not one book (and I've read many) mentions a LASH.

Hello to another kiwi!

It might help if you put your loation in your profile so people can make geographically-adjusted suggestions for you.  :)  What part of the country are you in?

I'm sorry I can't help with the worming issue as I don't have my chooks yet  :( (trying to be patient).

LASH is a very colloquial term.

As they are hybrids they could well be coming to the end of their laying career.  :(
Experience is what you get when you didn't get what you wanted!!
