red ants
« on: February 15, 2011, 10:11 »
Hi to all, looking at my compost heap I have noticed that there are red ants with-in the pile, I presume it is a nest. What I need to know is what do I do with the ants, do I just use the compost as normal or do I have to put some form of killing agent in the compost to get rid of these insects.

When speading the compost would the ants cause any bother to the vegtables that I will be planting or are they harmless..........many thanks for any answers

A good watering will often discourage them. Give the pile a dig over and hose it down.
