Fruit tree pruning - wounds
« on: February 13, 2011, 10:29 »
What's the modern view on how to deal with recently pruned fruit tree wounds - whether to paint Arbrax or similar or just leave them to the elements?
I'm queen of my own compost heap and I'm getting used to the smell.

It is now recommended that you just leave them.

I agree.  Just make sure that there are no snagging, untidy ends.
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

Funny how ideas change. When I worked in Forestry 40 years ago we always painted over the wounds but the thinking now is they will heal faster if exposed to the air.
