Horseradish is easy - an invasive weed in fact! so I grow mine in a large pot, and I put a flagstone under it to stop it rooting through. When processing to make sauce put the food-processor outside, and wear goggles - it is very pungent.

In my opinion Melon needs a greenhouse, and needs some time & effort to train the plants, pinch them out to get the correct number of lateral "branches", then pollinate the flowers manually, and then to set up some old stockings / bras etc to support the weight of the crop. But its easily "doable". They germinate pretty easily, and I don't think I lose many/any plants (unlike Cucumbers), the only disappointment is the relatively small number of fruits-per-plant.

Its rare to get 4 melons from every plant (rarer to get even more!), so its quite a high score on the "effort-per-Melon" scale :)

But they taste like night-and-day compared to the green-flesh type of Melons in the Supermarket (not sure I've seen Cantaloupe type melons in the supermarket, but they may taste good? Probably expensive though)

The smell of ripe Melon when opening / watering the greenhouse in the morning is a lovely experience too :)
