read a little tip yesterday, if you put slightly raised chicken wire over your young lettuce plants it helps to keep slugs off them ,the lettuce leaves will rest on the wire instead of the floor

Sounds a good plan but I wonder whether the slugs will simply crawl underneath the wire and eat the baby lettuces before they get big enough to resist?
