Went down to Lidl's to chase up these cheap seeds that were mentioned- thanks to whoever.  and bought a pack of banana shallots, planted 'em hopefully to get seed.  I know it may be easier to buy the seed, but where's the exitement in that?        Cheers,   Tony.

Probably depends on how exciting one finds the idea of growing banana shallots from seeds, I would guess!

I fear that you may be disappointed. I tried growing Lidl's banana shallots 2 years ago, but they did not grow, as I think that they had been treated with a sprouting suppressant.

Are you sure these are actually shallots? I've seen packets labelled 'Banana Shallots' in the Garden Centre that are actually just long onions, i.e. each plant will supply just one bulb - they won't split like real shallots.

But perhaps you're not worried.

I have Banana shallot seeds on order from T&M. It's the only variety of shallot seed available here.
