First Duck egg

I am so proud of the girls, they laid 2 eggs but in the middle of the stable, just went to put them away and stood on one :(   But here is the one I didn't ruin :)

Whats the rule on duck eggs, you have to collect in a certain time and clean with damp cloth I think, how long will they keep and what are they best in or are they nice boiled with soldiers?

White egg is Duck egg, the brown one is a very large egg by my hen the duck egg weighed 3oz

its upsets me when i hear this nonsense about duck eggs and alll the so called differences you need to apply to them ,,,, treat them the same as your chicken eggs .if you collect in the morning do so .if the ducks lay at lunch collect in the evening .not all blooming chickens lay in the morning i had birds would lay at teatime .i just collected the lot in the morning .what you dopnt want is duck or any eggs laying in water or dodo .... so when you collect any eggs wipe em with a sponge with sterilising fluid on in dilute ,1/2 teaspoon per pint cold water
still alive /............

Soft boiled with toast - yummy.  Need 1 minute more than a hen's eggs.

Preferred them in everything really.  Except scrambled, for some reason the texture wasn't as good.

Sorry to offend you Monty, just that I have never had any dealings with Duck eggs and didn't know if they had to be treated any differently :-(

As you say there are lots of rumours and suspictions that go round so thought it best to ask the ones who know here.

how old are ducks when they start laying?
i'm still waiting to see if my two are girls or boys, as i have no idea.

i'm hoping they are girls, simply because they are called buttercup and primrose -  which really aren't suitable names for boy ducks.

i'm freeee !!!

I have Aylesbury's they are 19 weeks old and laid yesterday.  The males have a definite curl to one feather in their tails.  They also seem to have a stronger head shape.  The curl was not totally obvious till about 16 weeks though.

Males groan, females quack!  my boys make a lovely masculine groany quack.

mine are aylesburys too, primrose is a utility and buttercup is an exhibition.

primrose has a right big quack, and is definately the boss and now you have said it buttercup does sound like groaning. and yes there is just one tail feather that really does curl up, and always follows primrose about.

it will be nice if they are one of each, but either way i still think they are wonderful.

thanks
