i was given a welsumer hen (description,plumage,colour all point to her being a welsumer) but when she started laying, her eggs were quite small and very pale almost an off white colour. she seems a normal size hen and not a banty. In my books it says that welsumers should lay very dark brown,large eggs. any idea what chicken i have?

Would need to see a picture of the bird I think. I have chucks of the same breed that lay very different coloured eggs! Welsummers do lay darker eggs although depending on where the bird has been bred from will depend on the quality of the colour. Hens lay funny eggs also when they first start laying (in my opinion!).

These are usually quite large and solid birds with yellowish legs. Perhaps a cross?
