If they don't charge postage they'll charge you extra for the spuds.

If you need a lot of seed potatoes go for someone like JBA who have a good selection of varieties and have a flat rate postage charge.

Garden Organic only charge a £1 for postage for spuds, but yes, their prices are dearer to cover it anyway, IMO

We are now buying eating potatoes for £4 per 25 kilo bag, so it`s not going to make economic sense for me to buy seed potatoes by mail order. Not much more than £1 per kilo would be my upper limit.

Economically I'd agree, but online seed merchants tend to have a much wider choice than those sold locally.  If an allotment site has an arrangement with something like Kings Seeds, then the carriage tends to be much reduced when potatoes are bought in bulk - and usually you can choose whatever variety is in the catalogue without incurring extra costs but is only cost effective if several people put orders in together on one order form.  Most allotment sites tend to have an early deadline (eg end of October) for putting the order in for delivery in February/March.

We get ours delivered centrally and then dish the sacks round the sites in the area. It's surprising how many sacks of spuds you can get in a Fiesta

Go to a "potato day" and you can buy as many or as few potatoes of different varieties and no postage.

Have to agree the price of maincrop spuds is very cheap and the space can be put to better use economically by growing other crops, will be growing salad and earlies though.

Garden 4Less have free delivery on all orders over £25, and have a reasonable selection of seed potatoes for around £2 per kilo.

You should be able to combine potato tubers with other seeds to reach £25.

Please remember your growing fresh spuds not the ones in the supermarket which can be 3 months old by the time they get them my supermarket is just selling cara i was eating them 2 month ago
