« on: December 31, 2010, 00:05 »
I went to local garden centre tuther day and bought a bag of john innes number 1 for my show onions witht he intention of sowing them that day, but the compost still hasnt defrosted so doesn anyone have any ideas of how to speed up the process?
If you want to be happy for a short time - get drunk.

If you want to be happy for a long time - fall in love.

If you want to be happy forever - take up gardening!

Bring it indoors.  Don't microwave it.  If only small amount, you could use the oven on a very low heat but that also has a fire risk if you're not careful (and your mum might mind anyway!)
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

I'd crumble the compost into the containers you intend to grow in and place where you intend to grow. If it dont defrost delay planting or find a warmer place :)

Sorry, off topic, but Yorkie just reminded me of the time my mum came home and opened the warm oven door to find a motorcycle crankcase that my Dad and I were warming to try to release a tight bearing.
She didn't seem to understand how this was very important and the only way to do it. OOPS.
I started out with nothing.....and I've still got most of it.

The Rhubarb triangle bites back - that'll teach you trying to grow something from Egypt rather than Siberia. I'd suggest hot water but given the lack of success with your parsnips that's probably not a good idea. Must be ruddy cold where you live all the time.

Warming it up in the oven will stink, never mind the fire risk.

I tried sterilising some lovely leafmold that way.  OH not amused.
