After really really poor sprouts last year I didnt hold out much hope this year for sprouts, but luckily every plant has given beautifully tight sprouts. But I am just not good with cauliflower - got one small cauli this year- the rest did nothing.

Carrots were a joy this year (last year they were decimated) - I enviromeshed as soon as I sowed them and did not remove enviromesh until the autumn. I now have an exitement for carrots and cannot wait till next year...

Parsnips - the trick of making drills 8" apart, into which popping about half a dozen seeds worked wonderfully: every drill hole gave at least one germination so after a while I simply removed the surplus and let each plant do its thing (although I actually gave many of the surplus seedlings to a neighbour who transplanted them immediately and has had a good harvest)

Sweetcorn - sadly I left some of these too late and they were past their best, but those I had early on were lovely.

I had a disaster with carrots but will try them again Swedea all bolted and looked more like parsnips so not sure if I will try them again. Broccoli didnt show at all but I will try a better seed next year. Cabbages were eaten by all unsundry but seemed to grow okish with one massive one but they were very holy . They didn't go to waste though as the chooks had them everyday. I may try kale next year too. Leeks have been ok not great but ok they are now frozen in the ground but I will try them again. My sprouts were fab will dfinately do them again and the same with potatoes bothof which I have ready for Christmas dinner.

Not bad for a first year and never having grown any veg in my life. Roll on 2011 and some warmer weather

Merry Christmas all  :D :D

I recognise that one!  A lot of us have had trouble with swedes this year.  The dry May did for them.  Next year I hope will be different ...  if nothing else I now have a big water tank!
