I have just purchased 5 free range hybrids at POL , they are doing very well on layers pellets and corn mix in the afternoon.
with this cold spell I am trying to give them a bit extra in the late afternoon, I have read from different forums books, etc, that they go mad for cooked potatoes ,rice, pasta
but my birds wont touch it ?
I first thought may they are full , but if I put more corn down they eat that.
Any advice please.

POL hens can be like picky teenagers who will only eat one thing. As they get older they will get used to a more varied diet.
It took a couple of my hens a long time to get interested in worms.

8doubles is absolutely right. Keep offering a good variety of interesting treats and you will soon find that they try one or two bits and with time and maturity will gobble down all you can offer. What you are feeding them at the moment, the layers and corn, is perfectly sufficient but it's always nice to give that bit extra for them to get through this cold. don't worry they are young and strong.
