back to 6, eventually
« on: November 06, 2010, 15:36 »
we have just collected a warren and a bluebelle, which takes us back to 6, which is what we started with, nearly 2 years ago, lost 8 inbetween, and had a very steep learning curve with hens and illness.

we have decided that lovely as the pure breeds are, the hybrids we have, are hardier, and have far more character, we are fed up chasing them out of the house, they get in at every open door, they chase the dog and eat her food, sit on the kitchen window ledge looking in, fly over the stable door, and mug every one who goes into the garden, just on the off chance they may have food, they have loads of treats, ( pellets with hot water on to make a porridge, we know its what they should eat but they think its a treat, so dont tell them please ).

big sal our initial blue laced red wyandotte, is still the queen of the coop, long may she reign.

thats so funny mine used to come into the house through the patio and team up on my and make me jump as they are very sneaky about coming in :) my boyfreind got fed up with chicken poo on the patio so the girlies have their very own run (they had one before but was small and they perfered the whole garden) they also used to sit on the window ledge and watch tv with me at the weekends they seem to like scrubs quite a bit they have even ambused me while sunbathing in my own garden stealing my fruit and using my head as a perch i love my chickens so much that they got away with it :s

Mine sneak in the back door to eat the cat's food :D
Be like a duck. Calm on the surface but always paddling like the dickens underneath.

pics as soon as they come out of the isolation run to mingle, will only be a few days, they seem as laid back as the others we have had, i dont think i will be going anywhere else for chucks.

Oh Martyn, I'm so pleased everything is looking up for you!  After all the heartbreak you suffered over the pure breeds!   :) :)

thanks annie, i dont think i will go back to pure breeds again these have been so good. got them from someone who was recommended, had a good long chat when we picked them up as we were so nervous about having more, he reassured us that what we were doing was right, and things have been great.
