I know Bumblefoot is meant to be uncommon so I can understand for the life of me why five out of my six chickens have got it   :(

The two chicks (well, POL now) haven't got it.  Neither has the black rock, the others have to some state or other.

I've had to extend sick bay to accomodate the new arrivals.  They are all on Baytril and some of the girls' wounds are healing.  It's just such a slow process.

I've moved their coop from where it used to be, they don't jump up or down from anything high... I'm obssessive with keeping their house clean.  I really am at my wits end with it now.  The only thing I can think of now is upping their Vit A intake as apparently this might help.

Has anyone got any other ideas what might help?  Or how I can prevent this happening again?

it sounds like you are doing everything you can - low perches, low coops or at least a walkway to get to where they need to be, so sorry can't offer any advice  :(

To be honest Joyfull, reasurrance I am doing all I can is a big help.  I guess you just get to a point where you doubt yourself...

I don't know if it's simply the fact that they are just prone to it now the weather has turned and the ground is getting muddy.  It reminds me a little bit of Mud Fever in horses...

maybe (or trenchfoot in other animals), but the weather will get worse as the snows appear so perhaps you may need to put some sort of canapy over their coop entrance to keep that area mud free  :)

Just a thought there isn't anything around that might be causing small wounds and maybe they are spreading it to one another  maybe sharp gravel or thorny hedge bottoms.

All the best

The coop has been moved on to the patio to ensure they have a drier area to be on more of the day (talk about animals coming before anything else!) and as a bonus, I get to watch them from the house more now.

I've searched the garden high and low for sharp things and albeit there are some stones, etc in the borders I would think most people's gardens were like that?  There is some gravel around the greenhouse but it's not sharp and they have been scratting around in it all year.

We are seriously considering severely restricting their range but I hate the thought of them not being able to free range over the 1/3 of an acre we have.  :(
