first morning - runny poo
« on: October 09, 2010, 09:48 »
Hi, the girls are all out in the run now and appear happy and alert, all eating and drinking. Noticed one has done a loose dropping but not sure which one, have been sitting observing them (no housework for me today!!) should I worry yet, how do I work out whose done it, no sign of mucky bottoms, although my white sussex has slightly ruffled tail feathers. They are so lovely though, feels like all my Christmases have come at once!!

The poo's change state all throughout the day; sometimes soft, runny or firm. (Sorry if someone is eating) have a search on this forum there are pictures etc put up of them. Type poo  lol

AuntSally posted in one "Keep an eye on them for any other symptoms and make sure they are eating a good diet. Plenty of pellets and short grass if possible."

If they are new they can be a tad runny for a day or so until they settle or may eaten something. If there is anything untowards it will continue, just watch them for a while and it wont be long before you know which one is loose.
If after a couple of days or so it continues to be runny with a milky appearance then I would be starting to suspect possible coccidosis which will need to be treated asap.
Have you put anythng like ACV in the water to help them settle in?
Edit: It may well be worthwhile giving them a little plain pro-biotic yoghurt to settle their tums and boost the good bacteria. I give it to mine about once a month or so.

Punk isn't dead...it's underground where it belongs. If it comes to the surface it's no longer punk...it's Green Day!

Its ok Alan I'm a nurse so used to poo!!
Have not got ACV but need to go to feed merchant today as forgot to get a cap for the feeder, will pick some up. Have looked at the poo chart (funny you can get one for humans!! thats the nurse in me!) its not as runny as some of the picks so will keep an eye on things. Re. yoghurt, just a natural yoghurt from supermarket? how do I give it to them, a little dish? sorry that sounds a bit dim!!

Yea, just live pro-biotic natural, no flavour or sweeteners. I put mine in a steel curry dish, put on the ground then run like hell   or you will be covered in it. They love the stuff. It fun watching them eat it then very carefully peck it off each other. Sounds like they are just settling in.
A couple of desert spoonfulls each.
