not a cheapskate but...
« on: September 27, 2010, 17:28 »
Hi all,

I recently posted on here asking about peoples views on the omlet eglu. I think the coup itself is fine but think the run is just too small. I have an area on my alloment that is roughly 16ft x 14ft, and i would like to build a run so that the chickens can use it all. I have an endless supply of 4x4 timber for fence posts, but would like to know the cheapest/effective ways of fencing the area. Hopefully ill have it done by Christmas!

Thanks all!

Use weldmesh, the lowest gauge (swg) you can afford the better as then it will be thicker and make sure it has small holes to keep out rats. Hills of devon (if you google that you will find their website) are the best for buying it on rolls and offer next day delivery. Dig the run into the ground by about 12" so that will stop foxes etc burrowing and also cover the roof with something like onduline or coroline which is cheapest from a timber merchants - use a mixture of clear and dark to allow light and shade  :).
Hope this helps  :)
Staffies are softer than you think.
