PS I think we all need to do the asparagus pea thing just once!

I don't see as we have to!

The last two replies are good enough for me.
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

its funny you should mention growing next year I've just ordered my flower plants for next year so i can be sure of getting the plants i want both seed raised and raised cuttings hopefully he says we will have the new garden finished its been our project for the last two years mainly digging out soil and building walls together with running the lottie this has been quite a busy season

i usually refer back to my lottie plan to see what varieties have done any good but as its been said we win some we loose some every thing comes out in the wash doesn't it!!

had a bad start this season with using old compost learnt my lesson for next year same goes for non use of fertilizer using growmore next year tried paper pots no good back to peat pots only going to grow two varieties of spud early white and late red also looking at the seed catalogue but going to use up the old seed that's left also will be drawing up the new lottie plan for setting a rotation of planting for next year still got plenty to do outside before winter sets in

My choices have rationalised down to what I like to eat and what I can grow. Sadly the two are not always the same. The standards will go in spuds, leeks, onions, lettuce radish, sweetcorn, beetroot, turnip, parsnip, various sorts of beans maybe even peas again. But tomatoes and peppers are always a struggle depsite everyone else telling me how easy they are. I will continue to pick at least one veg I have never grown before and give it a try this year it was two things, pink dragon a carrot sized radish went well and my Pak Choi were a disappointment. Next year who knows what I will end up with.

I take it you don't want my spare packet then?

I had a big "aha" moment a couple of years ago and I now grow what I eat!  This might sound kind of obvious but I did spend many years forcing myself to eat (or not) what I grew.

So now no parsips or novelty stuffing tomatoes, but lots of coriander, leeks, kale ...  and heaps fewer wasted vegetables in the compost heap!  And at the same time I have shifted to saving a lot of my own seed, just because locally grown seed does best, and because some of my favourites have been "discontinued" from catalogues.

Agreed Pip, I grew far fewer varieties of veg this year than I did last year (my first), but I wanted to see how things grew as I had never had a garden before never mind an allotment.
I certainly eat a lot more veg now than before as I also hate to see it rot and then have to throw it on the compost, my neighbours call me their green grocer as I leave lots on their doormats.  :D
Brussels, carrots, some herbs and runner beans are the only thing I have growing now as well as lots of green manure, I planted the over winter garlic and onions yesterday but the plot is planned for next year and I can't wait.
